Geosphere Austria forecasts that the weekend weather will remain mainly sunny and characterized by cold temperatures under the influence of high pressure.
The new week, on the other hand, will start off unsettled. The trend will continue as the week progresses, with the snow line dropping to up to 800 meters on Tuesday.
Sunny winter weather on Saturday
High pressure will bring sunny winter weather across the country on Saturday. Local patches of early morning fog will remain flat and dry out quickly. The wind will moderately freshen from westerly directions, especially in the northeast; otherwise, it will remain light. Early temperatures are expected to range from minus twelve to minus three degrees, although it will be colder in some valleys. Daytime highs are forecast at minus two to plus five degrees.
Intermittent sunshine on Sunday
The high-pressure influence on Sunday will gradually weaken from the northwest. A warm front will cross Austria during the day. Dense cloud fields in high and medium-high layers will pass by in phases without precipitation. However, it will be sunny everywhere at times. The wind will be weak and moderate in the east, blowing from south-east to south-west. Early temperatures are expected to be between minus 17 and minus five degrees Fahrenheit, with daytime highs ranging from minus one to plus seven.
Thin clouds on Monday
Initially, it will be widely sunny with only thin clouds on Monday. Gradually, however, denser clouds will gather from the west and northwest. In the afternoon, rain will spread from Vorarlberg to the Mühlviertel and Waldviertel. The snow line will be at 1,500 meters and above with the onset of precipitation. Further east and south, it will often remain friendly and dry. During the day, the wind will be moderate to brisk in the east and weak to moderate from the south. It will only turn to the west with the disturbance and freshen up in the north and west in the evening. Early morning temperatures between minus eleven and minus one degree will be slightly warmer than the day before, with daytime highs between two and ten degrees.
Changeable weather on Tuesday
After the passage of overnight precipitation, it will remain changeable during the day on Tuesday, with heavier clouds bringing rain at times. In between, however, it will clear up, and the sun will appear. Only in some north-facing areas of the Alps will it remain largely cloudy. The snow line will be between 800 and 1,500 meters above sea level, with higher values in the afternoon in the west. The wind will blow from the southwest to the northwest. It often blows briskly, sometimes strongly. In the south, it is rather light. Early temperatures range from minus seven to plus four degrees Fahrenheit, with daytime highs ranging from four to eleven.
The weather will remain unsettled. On the northern side of the Alps, dense clouds will move through, with frequent rain and showers. The snow line will initially be between 1,500 and 2,000 meters above sea level, but may drop slightly in the evening. It will be very windy, with stormy westerly winds blowing on the northern side of the Alps. On the southern side of the Alps, on the other hand, the weather is generally calmer. There will be less rain, more sunshine, and considerably less wind. Early temperatures will be between minus four and plus six degrees, with daytime highs between seven and 15 degrees.
